1 John 1:5-7

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

John, a beloved apostle of Jesus Christ, reminds us of the message that was so boldly proclaimed. The message that people died for, innocent lives were taken and families torn apart. John tells us, that Jesus by His perfect nature is light. Therefore, no darkness or imperfection by any means can empower Him. If we say we have communion with Him, then my actions should say “Communing with Jesus.” However, if we are compromising with the things of this world, and are producing darkness, then we are being unfaithful when we say  “we know God.” Therefore, if we walk accordingly to how He has called us, we have unity amongst the brethren, and learn true forgiveness of sins.
Jesus has called us to live a lifestyle that is pleasing to Him. Being obedient, submitting, surrendering, and remaining faithful. When we do this, we are in a house, and all the electric is on. We can go about having family dinners, fellowshipping and having fun. We don't have to worry about the lights getting turned off because we know Jesus has paid the bills.
When we stop living a lifestyle as to how He has called us, that boat starts to get rocked. The lights start to flicker and eventually go out. I no longer settle for compromising, I am the compromise. I am no longer concerned about the electric bill, so who cares about living in darkness or striving towards unity.

To walk in the light is to live in such a way that one is enlightened by the truth of who God is. The symbolism of having the lights on daily, is that we need to see where we are going or else we are lost. Christ is that light. Bill paid in full. If we walk according to how He has called us, we have unity amongst the brethren, and that light can never be turned off.
