Romans 12:6

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith.”

Paul writes this letter to the Romans using exhortation. Gifts are given to us by God, while talents are something we inherit and can constantly be worked, or improved on. These God given abililities should be used to build up the church, so that the church can be strong and able to withstand the viles of the evil one. We read in Romans 11:29 “the gifts and callings of God are irrevocable,” although this is true they are still to be pursued and developed. Its like someone buys you a car for your 18th birthday, but you do absolutely nothing with that car to keep it in shape. No oil changes, no tire changes or rotations. Just like with our gifts they have to be put to work.
Just like Paul writes, these gifts are given to us out of grace and mercy of God The Holy Spirit didnt have to come bearing any gifts, He isnt Santa Claus. But because He did, He expects us to use them, and rightly so. What sense does it make if you have a lounge chair and you try using it as a rocking chair? None. The chair wont rock, because its attempting to be something its not. Rocking is not the lounge chairs function. If you have the gift of prophecy, teach and exhort the brethren. Dont attempt stepping into a whole other battlefield that wasnt designed for you. Where you are placed accept the cause, and glorify the father however it may be. At least what we can do is serve, and see how God uses us.

Its not always easy knowing that where God has called you, what He has gifted you with, is where He wants you for a season, to speak to a person, or maybe multiple people. And in doing so, He wants all the glory. That in much of the unseen, there is something so visible. As 1 Corinthians 2:5 puts it, “ that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” When we use our Gifts we are choosing to acknowledge that the father has given them to us, and in that we will glorify Him.
