1 Samuel 13:14

“But Saul said “Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel.”

Saul was a man who was wise and yielded to the fathers will. It took obedience  and discipline for Saul to realize my kingdom will falter, and salvation will not happen if I do what my flesh desires. He had to be obedient to what the Lord had ultimately called him to do. To set aside a time of worship for the father and acknowledge “Lord I do have a problem, and that's I don't know what to do with this matter.” My own people want to kill and destroy, but you have just saved us.” And that's where we all fall.We don't approach the Father in such a manner. He had to submit ultimately, but the moment he got the answer, it was a matter of feeling and emotion vs. The father's will.
Saul recognized that the victory over the Ammonites belonged to the Lord and the Lord alone. Therefore the thought of killing people to bring him to the throne was an action that displayed betrayal, pride and blasphemy. “The Lord just won this battle and you want to make me king?” Discipline. To stay in the lines when people are telling us to cross over because everyone else has, and it seems like it's the right, and only option to do.

Saul being called to arms, let the Lord lead. The Lord had just saved many, by sparing them, from the hand of Ammonites. And because Saul honored Him, the Lord honored him. Because Saul displayed discipline in his heart, He was given the victory and in turn the crown.
